> Back from Krakow, Poland (21.12.2006)

Yes I’ve arrived back safely from Krakow despite the think fog, my flight was only an hour delayed! It is in fact colder in London than Krakow on my return (it was warmer when I left).

Now, here comes the rant and why I hate terrorists (and how to make a bomb with Jam and an iPod!) It has come as news to me that Jam is first liquid and second a potential bomb. I purchased a very nice Jam handmade by Monks from a monastery near Krakow for a Christmas present for my mother. Little did a realise the potential disaster the monks and I had created. Going through security I had the unhappy encounter with Polish security staff. They discovered the potential explosives of a bottle of water and a jar of Jam. The bottle of water I didn’t mind leaving with them (for testing no doubt) however the Jam was quite special and I didn’t want to throw it or give it away. In the end I had no choice as it was too late to check it in. Throwing it in the bin was horrible and I thought of all the starving people in Africa and my poor mother with one less present on Christmas day. I hope future terrorists read this and change their ways otherwise I see a return to boat, train, car and bus travel as the security measures will just get absurd.

Also how long has a battery operated device been able to bring down an aircraft? Has it ever happened? I wasn’t allowed to listen to my iPod when taking off and landing. Now I can understand this when taking off as I have to listen to the safety demonstrations but on landing, why? If something happens we’re all going to die most likely so please let me listen to a Norah Jones, Madeleine Peyroux or Coldplay song before I die. Is this too much to ask? Anyway I left my iPod on (after saying it was off) but I just didn’t have the headphones in my ears. The plane did come down but only safely, so after my experiment I can now safely say an iPod (probably Jam as well) will not bring down an aeroplane.

I feel no pity for your loss of the jam.

Everybody who watches the news every now and then would have known that everything liquid and gelatine is no longer allowed in hand baggage.

Also, everybody who is halfway onformed should know that during takeoff and landing electric devices are not allowed. You can use them during cruising altitude.
