| > Ubuntu survives Hacking contest | (29.03.2008) |
As my friend Kaweh pointed out in the comments in another post, Ubuntu has survived the Pwn to own annual contest that pits hackers against each other to win the computer they successfully hack. More rules about how the contest works are on the organisers website.
The Mac was compromised by a flaw in Safari, the browser installed by default on Macs, after two minutes on the second day of the contest. On the last day of the contest Vista was compromised by a flaw in Flash. Ubuntu was unhacked!! Of course it should be pointed out that the flaw in Flash could potentially exist in the Linux version of Flash but due to the way Linux is designed it wouldn’t be possible to take over the system as it is in Windows.
So if you run a Mac I would advise you to run Firefox and if you use Vista I would uninstall Flash until this flaw is fixed. Remember Hackers could potentially take over your PC with these flaws although they haven’t been disclosed and Apple and Adobe have been made aware of them. As for me I’ll continue to enjoy my unhackable operating system!!
